Sao Beach

Sao Beach, also being known as Bai Sao, is located on the south eastern part of Phu Quoc in An Thoi Town. Some locals named Sao Beach as the Star Beach too. Sao beach is arguably to be the best beach in Vietnam due to its 7km long stretch of white sand, distinct turquoise color water, swaying palm trees and jungle backdrop. The sand is light and white powdery. The water surrounding the beach is warm and calm. Moreover, the sea is relatively shallow as it extends out more than 100m away from the coast with a gentle slope with no rocks. This definitely makes it ideal for kids and non-swimmers. In the water, one can easily find pools of small fish and even starfish.

Getting to Sao Beach is a bit tricky especially if you plan to ride there on a motorbike. I have a hard time getting there but luckily the locals are friendly and they have been my life saviours. Once in the Bai Sao village, look out for a huge “7UP” signboard as this is the entrance for the path to Sao Beach. Continue on this dirt road for around 10 minutes and you will arrive at a junction with different paths leading to Khong Sao Beach Bar, Geckojacks and Long Beach Resort. I choose the Khong Sao Beach Bar which takes another 3 minutes of ride. Do note that riding on the path leading to Sao Beach is pretty uneven, so take it slow while navigating up this path. There is sufficient parking available, so just park where the people do.

One can easily rent the many beach chairs from the onsite beach vendors. Sometimes I simply wonder how they track so well on who has already make the payment. Beer, fruit juices and cocktails can be easily purchased too. Take some time to explore this beautiful beach. One can also enter the jungle, in the far northern and southern part of beach, via some man-made small trails by the local people.
